Let the retching begin

Warning: pity party ahead.

Morning sickness appeared at 5w6d or so...right about the same time as it had with the twins. No biggie, just waves of nausea through all hours of the day and night and getting a little worse with each passing day.

At the suggestion of Dr. C., my MFM, I started taking 50mg Vitamin B-6 three times daily with 1/2 a Unisom at night. I started this on Saturday and felt pretty good, although yesterday I was completely exhausted.

Well, this morning I felt a little questionable as I got ready for work. Hot flashes...not a good sign. During my commute, I contemplated turning around and going home, but I soldiered on.

I made it to 8:00...and then I puked. Have I mentioned how many times I vomited in the bathroom at work while pregnant with the twins? The nausea bit was flashback-inducing enough. This, though, has brought me right back to how much my last pregnancy sucked.

I ended up leaving work and am home in my sweats. I've eaten some but another episode feels inevitable.

We'll see how I do the next few days. I'm not due to see Dr. M. for my first prenatal appointment until 11/26 -*after* Thanksgiving. My naturopath said yesterday she has many other tricks up her sleeve to combat morning sickness before I resort to drugs. I'm sorry...I have an extremely high pain tolerance, but I cannot tolerate *this* for another 5-7 weeks. I've already done that once. In fact, I forgot until today that I used to wonder whether there had been a connection between my vomiting and Aliya's first abruption (at 7w3d, just 3 gestational days from where I am now).

Regardless...I will try whatever I can, but I need a pretty quick fix.

  1. I am sure on one hand the morning sickness is really reassuring that things continue to progress well, but on the other hand, it sure can be totally incapacitating and miserable. So I suppose I am happy to hear you are under the weather, but I hope you will find some relief!

  2. I can imagine how hard that can be. I think talking to your naturopath is a good idea. See what they can do for you. I hope you feel better soon.

  3. I'm sure you get ppl telling you ”what worked” for them all the time, but I feel compelled to share: coca-cola and summer sausage. Nothing I'd recommend to most pregnant women, but it sounds like you're headed for survival mode, and I've been there a couple of times. My naturopath thought it was the combination of fat, salt, protein, & cola syrup. I felt like I'd found a miracle cure.

Either way, I hope you find some relief!!

  4. another "what worked" story for you...my acupuncturist placed a tiny silver-colored bead on the inside of each wrist, held on with a very light clear adhesive that didn't come off for almost the whole week in-between my acupuncture visits. it did not make the all-day sickness go away entirely but i was definitely less sick with my daughter's pregnancy than i was with my twins. i had to take zofran with them, but no medication with hers, and i puked a LOT less. (i had those same fears about whether all the vomiting had caused the bleeding in my twins' pregnancy as well, but i did vomit with my daughter as well and her pregnancy was fine overall.)

  5. Amy, I hope the morning sickness passes quickly. It's a small price to pay, right?
